This week we have increased the range of projectors that we have on demonstration with the arrival of the excellent JVC HD100. If you are looking get the best in big screen images we have a wide range of projectors for you to compare including the Infocus IN76, Panasonic PTAE2000, Sony VPL-VW60, Projection Design M25 as well as the JVC HD100. With at least five high quality projectors on permanent display we can happily demonstrate what we consider the finest models on the market today. Sharp have launched their latest range of LCD Televisions:
Each of the new XL2 or X20 series screens features a full HD resolution (1920 X 1080 ) even at the 32" screen size and all models feature the new slimline frame allowing you to place a 46" screen where you previously would have put a 42" plasma or LCD.
New additions to the Pioneer Plasma range:
Pioneer has released the details of the new full HD plasma televisions that will compliment the existing range. Available in 50” & 60” sizes (PDP-LX508d & PDP-LX608D) the new screens have all the facilities of the current models but with an improved contrast ratio (20000:1) to offer even stronger black levels.

Panasonic have launched a new range of plasma televisions to compliment the existing PX70 and PZ700 series. The all new PZ70 models - TH42PZ70 & TH50PZ70 – offer the full high definition resolution of the top of the range TH50PZ700 at a more affordable price. In addition to the new range Panasonic have also launched a new 58” plasma screen - the TH58PZ700. The new models will be on display in our Edinburgh showroom from late August.

New Pioneer screens Now on Demonstration:
Pioneer has completely reworked their plasma display technology for their eighth generation of screens. The all new PDP-428XD and PDP-508XD replace the outgoing models (PDP-427XD and PDP507XD) and are now both on display in our Edinburgh showroom. Both of the new plasma televisions boast a class leading 16000:1 contrast ratio and in addition to the best contrast levels available on any flat panel the new HD Ready screens also offer a built in digital Freeview tuner. The new plasmas also now have an additional HDMI socket ( 3 in total) to cater for a Blu-Ray or DVD player, Sky HD box and also a games console such as the PS3 or the new updated Xbox 360.
The jump in technology and performance between the old models and the new is far greater than ever before and owners of Pioneer screens produced before the PDP436XDE should consider a demonstration to see just how good the new panels are in comparison.
Each of the previous models from Pioneer has won a host of awards and best buy accolades and we have no doubt that the new 428XD and 508XD will follow suit as once again Pioneer raise the benchmark for flat panel technology.

LG BH100 DVD, Blu-Ray, HD DVD player.

After much towing and frowing one company finally brings out a high
definition player that will play both Blu-Ray and HD DVD. Although you
will not be able to access special features on the HD DVD disks due
to licensing restrictions or play CDs the picture quality is superior
to the stand alone Samsung player and the first generation HD-DVD from
Toshiba, the HD-A1
With Samsung allegedly developing a similar machine for Christmas 2007
and the promise of disks combining both formats due out in the very
near future, it looks like the consumer will be the only winner in the
so called “format war”. Details on the player are still
tentative but a little digging on the US web site reveals full specification
sheets for the American player which should be almost identical to the
UK version.

Home Cinema Choice Magazine acknowledges the amazing ability of the
NAD Masterseries by naming the M55 based surround sound system their
Reference Product of the Year.
New Panasonic Plasma and LCD screens:
The
all new range of LCD and plasma screens from Panasonic are now available
and on demonstration. The new PX70 range comes in 37”, 42”
and 50” screen sizes and each one improves on every aspect of
the older model with a faster image plus improved colour and contrast.
The new screens come complete with a pedestal or can be placed on an
optional cabinet. The TH-42PX70 and TH-37PX70 are both available now
with the 50” TH-50PX70 due in early April. The new Full HD plasma
models will be available in 42” and 50” screen sizes in
June and May respectively with both offering full 1920x1080 resolution
to accept 1080P signals from the latest Blu Ray and HD-DVD players.
Both the TH-50PZ700 and the TH-42PZ700 have three HDMI inputs and improved
sound.

Now on show for demonstration in our showroom is the new Playstation 3 from Sony, as well as the HD add-on drive for the Xbox 360 games console.
Blu-Ray
or HD DVD? This is question often asked by visitors to our showroom
and fortunately, we are able to demonstrate both examples of the new
high definition formats, with Samsung and Panasonic models in the Blu-Ray
corner and Toshiba and Microsoft in the defence of HD DVD.
Towards
the end of 2006, Microsoft released an add-on HD DVD drive for the Xbox
360, which is an ideal solution for those people wanting to maximise
the potential that their 360 can give them. Being very competitively
priced, it can also act as an incentive for people who are considering
the purchase of a new games console, but who as yet, have not committed
themselves. Additionally this add on drive can be connected to a Media
PC such as the UVEM to allow
playback of HD-DVD’s without the need for the Xbox 360.
Sony are now stealing the limelight with the much awaited Playstation 3, giving devotees of the Playstation gaming environment, something to rave about with its advanced RSX graphics chip, 60GB hard drive, Bluetooth-enabled wireless controllers, 1080p output, and of course, not forgetting its Blu-Ray drive capability.

Toshiba
HD-DVD players now in stock:
We now have both the HD-E1 (£375) and the superior 1080P HDXE1 (£650) in stock and on display. The Toshiba HDXE1 is finally here after a long wait and a few delays; two words can sum it up “simply stunning”. Firstly the build quality, as soon as you open the box you are greeted with a full aluminium chassis which when you take it out of the box, instantly makes it feel like it’s worth the money. With great control of HD-DVD playback and a superb 1080p scaler on board, the XE1 produces jaw dropping pictures with HD DVD’s and on standard definition DVD’s. With the build quality and price of the first players hindering the launch of the competing Blu-Ray format, the Toshiba HDXE1 throws down the high definition gauntlet with poise and gusto. In fact it’s so good I had to buy one myself.

Sharp XD1 and Sony W2000 range now on demonstration:

Stock has started to arrive of the all new True HD screens from Sony and Sharp each with a resolution of 1920 x 1080 and capable of accepting 1080p video signals from the new DVD formats - Blu-ray and HD-DVD.
The Sony W2000 range includes 40" and 46" screen sizes and the X2000 series also boasts a 52" model. The Sharp XD1 is currently available in 42" and 46" sizes and we expect to see the 37" and 52" models arrive in store over the coming weeks.
The Sharp and Sony screens both produce stunning images with High Definition and Blu-Ray content but also excel with Standard Definition sources such as Sky or Freeview. The Sony KDL40W2000 was recently voted Product of the year 2006 by What Hi-Fi; they commented that the screen was: "Quite simply the best LCD TV you can buy at the moment".

Next Generation of DVD Players
The next generation of DVD players are now available in the UK. Like HD-DVD the High Definition Blu Ray players can deliver stunning images to your screen and can handle Full HD (1920x1080) material. Blu- Ray and HD-DVD players can also play your normal DVD discs and with built in scalers can deliver images up to 1080p through their HDMI output.
The increased storage capacity of Blu-ray discs offers 25 GB of content on a single-sided disc - over five times the capacity of traditional DVDs and enough space for two hours of high-definition movies or recorded material. Likewise HD-DVD can store over three times more information than a standard DVD on a single sided disc.
