After much towing and frowing one company finally brings out a high definition player that will play both Blu-Ray and HD DVD. Although you will not be able to access special features on the HD DVD disks due to licensing restrictions or play CDs the picture quality is superior to the stand alone Samsung player and the first generation HD-DVD from Toshiba, the HD-A1

With Samsung allegedly developing a similar machine for Christmas 2007 and the promise of disks combining both formats due out in the very near future, it looks like the consumer will be the only winner in the so called “format war”. Details on the player are still tentative but a little digging on the US web site reveals full specification sheets for the American player which should be almost identical to the UK version.
